 TRICK OR TREAT, AN ATYPICAL HALLOWEEN

Halloween celebrations have been a bit different at IESO Alconétar this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Pupils have not worn spooky costumes or tried delicious halloween treats made by FPB students as in previous years. However, the situation has not prevented them from enjoying this traditional Celtic festival and learning a little bit more about its origins and evolution throughout the years. Besides, our students have improved and developed their knowledge of vocabulary related to this festival with games, flashcards, riddles, songs and scary stories.

 2º ESO students, for example, have learned how this festival is celebrated by a typical British family with children of their age watching the video “This is Britain: Halloween”.

They have also watched another video about the typical food and games associated with this celebration in which they showed great interest because they wanted to put them into practice next year.  Music has also been part of our celebration since students have listened to and made some activities about  Tim Burton´s song: This is Halloween.

2º ESO students have also made their own videos with riddles their classmates had to guess. Here you are some examples:

Finally, older students at 4th ESO have written and read collaboratively a spooky Halloween story that you can hear in the following link  Halloween scary story (4th ESO students).

As you can see, the pandemic has forced us to celebrate Halloween in a different but not less productive way because where there is a will, there is a way.

TRUCO O TRATO, UN HALLOWEEN ATÍPICO.

Como viene siendo habitual en nuestro centro, los alumnos han celebrado  Halloween, aunque este curso de una forma atípica y sin salir de la clase debido a la pandemia por COVID que estamos sufriendo.  No han llevado disfraces espeluznantes ni probado los deliciosos dulces y snacks preparados por los compañeros de FPB como en años anteriores. Han podido, sin embargo, disfrutar de esta festividad de origen Celta de una forma diferente y aprender un poco más sobre sus orígenes y evolución a lo largo de los años. 

Nuestros alumnos han mejorado su conocimiento de vocabulario en inglés relacionado con este festival a través de juegos, adivinanzas, canciones e historias escalofriantes que ellos mismos han creado. Se han llevado a cabo diferentes juegos con flashcards en 2º ESO para afianzar el vocabulario básico relacionado con esta festividad y han aprendido cómo se celebra este festival en Gran Bretaña de la mano de una familia británica con hijos de su edad a través del vídeo “This is Britain: Halloween”. Han visto, también, otros vídeos relacionados con la comida y juegos tradicionales de Halloween en los que han mostrado gran interés ya que les gustaría ponerlos en práctica el curso que viene.

La música también ha estado muy presente en nuestras celebraciones a través de actividades que los alumnos han realizado sobre Tim Burton´s song: This is Halloween.

Los alumnos de 2º ESO  han realizado sus propios vídeos con adivinanzas sobre Halloween que sus compañeros debían solucionar. Aquí tenéis algunos ejemplos  2º B Guillermo, Lucía Romero 2º B.

Finalmente, los alumnos más mayores de 4º ESO han escrito y leído de forma colaborativa una creativa historia de miedo que podéis encontrar en el siguiente enlace Halloween scary story (4th ESO students).

Como podéis ver, la pandemia nos ha obligado a celebrar Halloween de una forma diferente pero no por ello menos productiva y divertida porque querer es poder.
